Art and China after 1989: Theater of the World
The Long March Project is a vast, multiyear curatorial experiment involving thousands of local and international participants engaged in collaborative and research-based projects. Collectively, they seek to reinterpret historical consciousness and develop new creative approaches to political, social, economic, and cultural realities.
Long March — A Walking Visual Display
In July 2002 curator and theorist Lu Jie set out with artist Qiu Zhijie on “Long March — A Walking Visual Display”, a set of events, exhibitions, and performances staged at sites along the Red Army’s historic 1935–36 route through the hinterland. Their original proposal is displayed here.
Long March Glossary
As the Long March Glossary on the wall suggests, the project revisits modern revolutionary memory in local contexts and proposes new methods to embed art in contemporary society.
Avant-Garde
The film documents a Long March Project street event presented in New York City as part of Performa in 2007.
