Long March Archive: Back End

Long March Archive

Time: June 25 – August 31, 2019

Location: Minsheng Art Museum, Beijing

Invited by the “The Exhibition of Annual of Contemporary Art of China 2018”, “Long March Archive: Back End” visualizes a spatial design that could function as a shared working space while echoing the Long March’s aesthetics and the methodology of the Long March Archive.

Long March Archive selectively displays the core awareness and methodologies extracted from previous Long March Project projects in the common space of the exhibition. It visualizes a critical mind map from which Long March Projects are derived and developed and is extended and brought to a new dimension by ongoing discussions and events happening inside the space.

“Back End” is one of the attempts to forefront the working processes of contemporary art and archival practice, revealing the black box of art-producing process to the audiences. Unlike the previous projects of Long March Archive, “Back End” expands its focus to all participants in the exhibition context instead of concentrating on the archive materials of Long March Project itself. We propose a set of rules for using the co-working space and invite all participants in “The Exhibition of Annual of Contemporary Art of China 2018” to enter the space for discussion, workshop and other events, internal or external, under a shared schedule. All documents produced in the duration of “Back End” should be reserved as both archive and materials for display. Any form of collective collaboration, including dialogues, forums and other initiatives could be generated among users when sharing the physical working space. Audiences are invited to get involved in the working process at any time.
